Throughout the Reception year your child will partake in an ambitious curriculum which is designed to ensure progress towards our end of year curricular goals.
We have a carefully planned Long Term Plan and Progression Document. Please follow the link to view the Long Term Plan and Progression Document.

At Bedale CE Primary school we are passionate about children becoming life-long readers. We teach reading through Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised. In Early Years we teach the children, Phase 2 (Autumn term), Phase 3 (Spring term) and Phase 4 (Summer term).

White Rose Maths
In Early Years we follow the White Rose Maths which is a mastery-based scheme of learning which align with the new statutory framework for EYFS 2021. The guidance has been divided into 10 phases which provide opportunities to develop an understanding of number, shape, measure and spatial reasoning.

There are six key areas of early mathematics learning, which collectively provide a platform for everything children will encounter as they progress through their maths learning at primary school, and beyond:
- Cardinality and Counting
- Comparison
- Composition
- Pattern
- Shape and Space
- Measure

Numberblocks
The above areas form the fundamental mathematical basis of Numberblocks. We use NCETM’s support materials linked to Numberblocks to draw out and build on the maths embedded in the stories contained in each episode.

NCETM Maths Mastery
We are continuing our journey with the ‘Mastery Number programme’ for a second year and we are delighted to be part of the ‘Mastering Number embedding Work Group’ this year. In Early Years we are building secure foundations in the development of good number sense for all children.

In EYFS, we start the school enrichment programme - a special set of learning experiences which are woven into our curriculum and link to our school vision of ‘embedding a passion for reading’ , ‘developing an understanding of the locality’ and ‘empathy for other cultures’.
Our Early years children are provided with an abundance of opportunities to learn about rights and responsibilities and appreciate what it means to be a member of society. They are encouraged to develop their sense of self-worth by developing competencies and by playing a positive role in contributing to school life and the local community. In addition to this the children develop an understanding about other cultures and backgrounds around the world.
