SEND

Our school mission is to endeavour to raise the achievement and aspirations of every child, focusing on our three core values: Perseverance, Compassion and Friendship.

At Bedale C of E Primary School, we are inspired by Christian faith and practice. We are committed to the equal inclusion of all pupils in all areas of school life. We recognise the diverse and individual needs of all of our pupils and take into account the additional support required by those children with Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND). Whilst disabilities generally affect children long term, not all SEN difficulties should be seen as ‘Life Long’. SEND is seen by our school as the child requiring provision that is additional to, or different from the rest of the class. Our School is committed to anti-discriminatory practice to promote equality of opportunity, prevent disabled pupils from being treated less favourably and valuing diversity for all children and families.

Our SENCO team is led by Mrs Ball our Deputy Headteacher who works alongside Mrs Jobling as Deputy SENCo.  We also have a Wellbeing Team lead by Mrs Durham as Mental Health lead. Our designated SEND Governor is Mrs Maxine Birkbeck.

At Bedale C of E Primary we have a variety of policies which ensure provision for our children with SEND and enable school to fully comply with the Special Educational Needs and Disability Regulations (2014). Please follow the links below to find out more

SEND Information Report

Schools also have to publish a SEND Information Report on their website. This provides details about how we implement our policy for children and young people with SEND. You can find our SEND Information Report by clicking the link below. If you would like to discuss your SEND requirements in detail please contact the school to arrange an appointment.

Local Offer

North Yorkshire County Council have published their local offer for children and families from 0-25. This outlines what is available for children and young people with SEND in our Local Authority.  To find out more about what this great service have to offer, please follow the link here or call on 01609 536923.

SENDIASS

SENDIASS North Yorkshire is a service for parents and carers of young people aged 0-25 with special educational needs and /or disabilities (SEND) as well as young people themselves. It is impartial, which means it is not bias and gives confidential information, advice and support that is arms length to the Local Authority.  We feel it is important for families to know who else you can turn to for specialist advice and guidance beyond the school.

Contact in the first instance the Advice Line on 01609 536923. Find out more about SENDIASS North Yorkshire and keep up to date with the latest news via Facebook, Twitter or their website on http://sendiassnorthyorkshire.co.uk/

Our SEN Provision

There are four broad areas of special educational need, these are:

  • Communication and Interaction
This area of need includes children with Autism Spectrum Condition and those with Speech, Language and Communication Needs
  • Cognition and Learning
This includes children with Specific Learning Difficulties, Moderate Learning Difficulties, Severe Learning Difficulties and Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties
  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health Difficulties
This includes any pupils who have an emotional, social or mental health need that is impacting on their ability to learn
  • Sensory and/or Physical Difficulties
This area includes children with hearing impairment, visual impairment, multi-sensory impairment and physical difficulties.

Special Educational Needs and/or a disability can affect many children throughout their school career and beyond. Whilst disabilities generally affect children long term, not all SEND difficulties should be seen as life-long. SEND is seen by our school as the child requiring provision that is additional to or different from the rest of the class. Here at Bedale C of E Primary School, we understand that every child is unique and a carefully planned approach is needed.

SEND Whole School Provision

Children at Bedale that are receiving additional support and intervention programmes have an individual Provision Map. Parents are invited into school to review and discuss support and progress against SMART targets every term. Where appropriate, children also meet with their teacher or the SENCo to discuss their Provision Map and to share their views.

This year, we are working with the Autism Project; a project funded by Hambleton &
Richmondshire Locality Board and delivered alongside The Dales School. The project is within
its second year and is aimed at supporting the needs of autistic children and young people in
mainstream schools in Hambleton and Richmondshire. The project offers staff training on a
small group or whole school basis, modelling and coaching for staff using evidence-based
interventions and approaches, signposting and transitional support, as well as support for
families.

Governors are kept up to date on the progress of SEN pupils. Confidentiality is maintained and individual pupils are not named however, data is shared to support discussions around funding arrangements and the SEND Notional Budget. The Governors agree priorities for spending and evaluate the impact of previous funding allocations.

If you would like to discuss, SEND requirements for your child in detail, please contact the SENCo or the Head Teacher to arrange an appointment.
